A big thank you to our Duke of Edinburgh Youth Volunteer Group this morning for helping us with some tree tube maintenance at Johnshill Field. It’s called ‘beating up’ as we lift the tree tubes up, clear any dead leaves or vegetation that may be growing inside the tube with the tree and then the tubes are replaced and stakes hit into the ground a little more to give the tree more rigidity and bracing against the wind.
The youth volunteer group meet every Sunday and do varied conservation tasks, most for the volunteering section of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Although some use the time given towards their Queens Award for Scouting or the John Muir or Saltire Awards. It’s a great way to add a little something extra to UCAS or job applications to make you or your kids stand out from the crowd.
