How much time do I need to commit?
You can give as much or as little time as you like. We don’t ask for a minimum time commitment as any time you can spare will be appreciated. If you’re working towards an award however they have their own timescales, i.e. Duke of Edinburgh Bronze is usually 1 hour per week, John Muir Discovery Level is 4 full days.
Where can I volunteer?
We have volunteer opportunities at all our Visitor Centres: Castle Semple, Greenock Cut and Muirshiel. We also have quarterly volunteer Beach Clean events at Lunderston Bay, near Gourock.
How fit do I need to be?
You don’t have to be fit to volunteer as you can work at a pace that suits you, some of our volunteers find the tasks helps increase their physical activity.
Do I need to tell you I plan to join?
You don’t need to give us any advance notice of your intention to join the group, just come on down and we’ll give you a form to complete. Or, you can download and complete in advance from our Downloads page here to save time. Have a look at the programme for the group coming up too in case the Castle Semple group are at Muirshiel instead that day.
Is there an age limit?
There is no upper age limit although for most of our opportunities you have to be over 18. However we do have Duke of Edinburgh volunteer sessions for younger volunteers every Sunday, aimed at 14-18 yr olds.
What training will I get?
Most of our roles require no formal training; we will train you to ensure you are able to carry out your volunteering role.
I receive welfare benefits, am I allowed to volunteer?
Yes, to find out more about volunteering while receiving benefits can be found on the government website.
