Johnshill Loop

Starting from Castle Semple this circular walk encompasses the Lochshore path and Parkhill Woods, returning through Johnshill Field and Lochwinnoch.

This circular route offers lochshore views, historic features and access to woodland trails.

The Route: Starting at the Castle Semple Visitors Centre at Lochwinnoch, take the cycle track towards Kilbarchan until you reach Parkhill Wood entrance. Follow the trails through Parkhill that will lead you to Johnshill Field at the top of Lochwinnoch, continue downhill back to the village and visitor centre.

Points of Interest: Access to more woodland trails in Parkhill Wood. Historic landscape features of the former Castle Semple Estate. Cafe and seasonal bike hire available at Castle Semple.

Historic Features: A short detour off the main route will lead you to Courtshaw Maze, Grotto and remains of Collegiate Church.

Birds: Parkhill Wood is home to tawny owls and great spotted woodpeckers, in the summer look out for chiffchaffs, willow warblers and blackcaps.

Vegetation: Bluebells, dogs mercury, red campion.
