Semple Stories Mine Memories Vol 2.

The second in a series of oral histories from former Muirshiel Mine worker Harry Pratt

The Semple Stories Lochwinnoch’s Glories Project aimed to capture oral histories from local people and preserve them for future generations. In this series of blogs to come we will focus on the memories from Harry Pratt who worked at Muirshiel’s Barytes Mine.

His stories can be heard all at once on the new U-Turn Round installed on site at the mine – an informative and rewarding end to the 4km walk to get there.

We understand that not everyone can walk to the mine and so we will bring you Harry’s memories online one at a time. Search ‘Lochwinnoch Glories’ on the Clyde Muirshiel website search bar to find more interesting information complied by the project.

In this second memory clip, Project Officer Mhairi Donnelly interviews Mr Pratt and he relates what Barytes (pictured below) is exactly. Hopefully it will inspire you to visit the site and see it for yourself. Enjoy.
