Greenock Cut Visitor Centre

Situated in the heart of Inverclyde’s historic water catchment area, the Greenock Cut is a scheduled monument with fantastic views and trails.

Park Hours

Car park and trails are open daily. Toilets are open daily 9.15am – 4pm.

Outdoor Learning

Greenock Cut has an indoor and outdoor classroom facilities and a mixed range of habitats for younger and older children to investigate.

Outdoor Activities

Great walking, cycling and wildlife opportunities surround the Centre, plus the wild land around the Centre makes it perfect for adventures for those doing their Duke of Edinburgh Award or a land based navigation course.

On Site

Tracks, trails and car parks are open all day, every day.

Things to do:

  1. Do the Greenock Cut, the 12km circular sign posted route is rated as one of the top 50 walks in Scotland.
  2. Take the children Wood Spirit Hunting round the 3km Nature Trail in Shielhill Glen
  3. View the interactive Greenock Cut exhibition that explains Robert Thom’s 1820’s engineering.
  4. Climb Dunrod Hill for panoramic views of the Clyde and the Isles
  5. Join the Rangers on an event or contact them about organising your own event on site.

Also onsite:

  • Countryside Ranger Service provide an environmental education programme and offer advice about local walking and cycling routes and wildlife.
  • The Visitor Centre is open most days! Namely when the Rangers are in the building or working nearby.
  • The Special Protection Area for Hen Harriers runs to the south of the area.
  • Visit and climb the nearby Corlick Hill
