Just as the sun was beginning to disappear behind the gathering flocculent clouds that foretold of the imminent changing weather I thought that an evening walk from Lochwinnoch along part of the Semple Trail would be a fine end to the day. However, once I’d reached the end of the Aird Meadows trail the clouds were gathering together and were no longer so fluffy looking. From this point on the loch there’s a good view over to the Castle Semple Centre. As I turned to head for home I noticed the reddish flowering heads and succulent leaves of a woodland a plant called orpine. This plant may be mistaken for the related ice-plant, but orpine has leaves that are alternate whilst ice plant’s leaves are opposite one another.
