Otters are semi-aquatic mammals and live in holts around water edges. The majority of otter population in Great Britain occurs in Scotland. Sites selected by otters have good quality habitat features necessary for feeding and breeding, such as high water quality and vegetated river banks, islands and woodlands. They mainly feed on fish, shellfish, but also invertebrates, amphibians, birds and small mammals.
