Amethyst deceiver is very common throughout Europe and America. Its colour strength changes depending on weather conditions, from pale lilac when dry to deep purple when wet. Often found among fallen leaves in woodland, popular under beech trees, with which is ectomycorrhizal (forms associations with tree roots). Amethyst deceiver is edible (caps only), although smell and taste are not distinctive.
