Close up on foxgloves.

Competitive plant grows tall

Foxgloves are starting to flower along by the roadside. Small flies find it difficult to get past the guard of small hairs at the front of the petal reserving the nectar for larger insects that will reach the pollen.  Bumble bees are attracted to their purple colour that stands out above the tall grasses of the wayside.  As the grasses grow taller the flowers further up the plant begin to open and so it keeps itself visible above the smaller plants.
