On the evening of Monday 23rd October John from the Coats Observatory Paisley paid a visit to Castle Semple Visitor Centre to host the first of the site’s Stargazing Evenings. The Castle Semple location gives a wider panoramic of the night’s sky as well as beautiful moonlit reflections on Castle Semple Loch.
Visitors were treated to almost 2 full hours of clear cloud free skies (we wish we could take credit for arranging this!). John used his advanced telescope to focus in on Andromeda, our nearest neighbouring galaxy as well as pointing out the Pleiades (the Seven sisters). The milky way was visible directly overhead and John pointed out several constellations including Cassiopeia, Pegasus, Andromeda and Perseus.
