Ranger Claire and Senior Ranger Mike last week attended the 2018 Scottish Countryside Ranger Association Ranger Rendezvous. It was a 3 day event of networking, site visits, lectures, training and workshops and included a lot of skills sharing and the very important evening quiz!

Day 1 started with a site visit to the Forestry Commission’s Glentress Mountain Biking site and a walk around the grounds of the Girlguiding owned venue of Netherurd House in the Scottish Borders. There was then a formal dinner with Christine McKelvie MSP in attendance as the guest of honour.

Day 2 gave the Rangers a chance to refresh Child Protection Training with a very comprehensive course by the NSPCC and then we found out about North Ayrshire’s Apprentice Ranger scheme and how to further promote Ranger activities through social media channels.

The SCRA AGM followed just before dinner and then the all-important quiz and a good old raffle. They represented Clyde Muirshiel well with Ranger Claire being winning quiz team, while Senior Ranger Mike won two items in the raffle!

Day 3 saw an update from the Countryside Management Association (the English equivalent of SCRA) and information on the Junior Ranger Programme run by our Ranger colleagues from Colorado from guest visitor Arain. Outdoor workshops followed covering storytelling (run by our very own Snr Ranger Mike), fungi hunts and whittling our own whistles from alder.

The venue was amazing and all the Ranger Services provided fantastic company from start to finish.
