Hector caused some havoc for the Greenock Gulls.

Storm Hector affects the Greenock Station chicks

We carried out the first of our weekly chick checks today on Greenock Police Station roof. During the tagging season we do this just to monitor the chicks of our tagged birds. However, the drastic change in weather that we saw last week had a negetive effect on the nests and we could only find one chick associated with each of our gulls, Gary, Harry and Luna.

Although not good news it is one of the reasons why the females lay three eggs, in the hope that one or two will survive. The adults were all in attendance and were keen to see us off as we did our checks quickly. The chicks are now past their most vulnerable stage and all being well we should be able to check they are OK again next week.
