This year’s Classics at Castle Semple was blessed with lovely autumn sunshine and fantastic crowds. Over 1000 people came to see the classic cars as they cruised into the scenic lochside location at Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park’s Castle Semple Centre.
Over 80 cars attended the event to raise funds for St Vincent Hospice in Howwood, a charity dear to organiser Jane Fawcett’s heart. As the photo shows, this year saw an amazing total with over £1600 raised going directly to hospice services and received by Laura McDade of the St Vincent fundraising team.
Jane said “It’s such a special show. Great vehicles from all eras – some as early in 1921. It is known as the friendly, end of season social show amongst regulars, everyone chatting and smiling. A lovely day of autumn sunshine was a real bonus for the lovely loch side location”
There were two awards this year, carefully crafted by Tonya Allan of Glenouther Crafts in Ayrshire, who, incidentally, will be attending the Craft Fair being held at Castle Semple Centre on Sunday 4 November 11am – 3pm.
Ray Doull of Glasgow took the Clyde Muirshiel Judges Choice Award, chosen by Regional Park Countryside Ranger Claire Devlin, in his Buick Rivera special (complete with drive-in movies speakers blasting out War of the Worlds)
Power Door Best in Show trophy went to Alan Hewitson of North Ayrshire with his immaculate Landrover Series 2 – a stunning example.
It is incredible what folk have squirrelled away and it certainly made for an interesting show in 2018. So save the date for Sunday 20 October 2019 when Jane will be doing it all again!
